Building Research Competencies

This class has definitely been a challenge, but in a good way.  I didn't realize how much really went into planning, designing and executing research.  There are so many things to be careful about, and it is very important to remember that you working with people, not just subjects.  Planning research takes a lot of time, effort and ethics.

One challenge I had with doing my research simulation was keeping in mind that this was just research, and not the answer to what my research question was.  In my end state at first, I was trying to teach the parents who were not spending enough quality time with their children what to do, rather than just keeping in mind that this is just research.  So that was a little difficult.

I enjoyed the class, and I thank everyone for their comments on everything that we did.  Good luck to all of you in your future classes, and with your final simulation!

Shannon,
I enjoyed reading your blog. I truly relate to your experience. Apart from learning effective ways to conduct research, knowing how to read research without being confused by all the terminology is important in our profession. Additionally, we know to ask to the right questions without being intimidated when research involves children we know. So all the way around, this course has been very beneficial in my professional growth, and I am glad we had the opportunity to learn together.

Research with young children has many ethical concerns. I can see how wanting to educate the parents was your primary concern. The good thing is after the research we can use what we have learned to educate.

Shannon,

I agree. This class has shown the importance of implementing a valid research simulation. This class has not been easy, but I have learned how research plays a major role in the ECE field. I also agree that it's hard to not speculate what the end result will be, especially with ECE topics that are familiar to us. Best of luck in all future courses and professional endeavors.
